1. New pharmaceutical preparations of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Pharmacognosy.
2. The analysis and activity of natural medicines.
3. The effective composition in Chinese Herbal Compound Formula.
research programs and achievements
Professor Chen has been engaged in scientific research on Traditional Chinese Medicine and Natural Medicines for nearly 30 years, and he is the editorial board member of Chinese Journal of Pharmaceutical Technology Economics and Management. At the same time, He has undertaken a few national projects as follows:
1. National “Significant New Drug” monographic study “anti-cerebral ischemia new drug- Preclinical study of honokiol intravenous freeze-drying liposomes”, Project Leader.
2. National science and technology major project “Research on the quality control of Traditional Chinese medicine and construction of information platform-research on the quality control of Aurantii Fructus” , Project Leader of the subtopic.
3. The National 973 Project "Research on the inheritance and innovation of the theory of Chinese herbal property-study on the properties of genuine medicinal materials”, one of the lead researchers.
4. Revision of quality standard of traditional Chinese medicines in China Pharmacopeia 2010. -research on the quality control of Flos Inulae Japonicae Project Leader of the subtopic.
5. Science and technology major project of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine “Research on a traditional Chinese medicine Echinacea purpurea and its new preparation”, Award Beijing Science and Technology Advancement Award (Third Class), third awardee.

Professor Chen has developed several new drugs, published more than 50 papers, applied and obtained four patents, published and edited 5 monographs, and has trained more than 20 graduate students.
